Neil Connelly, Director, Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability at the University of Victoria presents "Reporting on Sustainability Progress at the University of Victoria (2009-2011)" as part of the joint PCIC-PICS Pacific Climate Seminar Series at the University of Victoria.

The University of Victoria (UVic) holds an important leadership position as one of the most sustainable campuses in Canada. In 2009, UVic developed a Sustainability Policy and a Sustainability ActionPlan for Campus Operations, 2009-2014 through extensive consultation withstudents, staff and faculty, as well as community members. Monitoring, evaluation, reporting and communication on performance are important factors in advancing sustainability within an institution with diverse interests, operational complexities and challenges.

The Progress Report is a summary of the highlights of progress made from 2009–2011 towards achieving the 46 goals outlined in the Sustainability Action Plan. It describes key accomplishments in areas such as waste management, energy systems, transportation, water use and purchasing as well as identifies the aspects of campus sustainability that require increased attention at the institutional, collective and individual level for the 2012-2014 period. In addition, it sets out new directions for future reporting that expand upon the current focus of the Action Plan on operational sustainability to also include the inter-nationally recognized Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) along with the university’s annual Carbon Neutral Action Report.

This seminar is also available via live webcast.
