Event attribution - are we doing it reliably?

Presenter:
Dr. Francis Zwiers
When:
January 25, 2019 - 2:30pm to 4:00pm
Where:

Rooms 108 and 112, Halpern Center, University of Victoria

As part of the Community Climate Seminar Series, PCIC Director Francis Zwiers will be delivering a talk on event attribution: a question that seems to arise invariably in the wake of devastating extreme weather and climate events is whether human influence on the climate system played a role. Using examples, his talk will describe some of the methods that are used in event attribution studies. Dr. Zwiers will also pose some questions about whether we are making inferences about the impact of the human influence on the event that has just occurred in a reliable manner.
