Norman Shippee is a Research Associate at Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium, with research interests in extra-tropical cyclones and the associated impacts. His research has included analysis of storm activity in the North Pacific and Arctic using multiple objective identification methods, consideration of alternative storm definitions provided by various end-user perspectives and impacts, and engaging stakeholders to develop seasonal outlooks of various measures of storm activity. He aims to provide two-way communication between stakeholders and scientists by developing storminess indicators that bridge technical storm definitions and end-user needs. He joined PCIC in April 2016, working as a post-doctoral research fellow for the Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response Network to analyze the ability of seasonal forecasting systems to simulate extra-tropical cyclones. Norman has a BSc in Meteorology from Plymouth State University, a MSc in Applied Meteorology from Plymouth State University, and is expected to complete his PhD in Geography at the University of Victoria in summer 2016. He also teaches Climate and Society at the University of Victoria (EOS/ES 365).

Education:
  • Ph.D candidate, ABD, University of Victoria, September 2011
  • M.Sc., Plymouth State University, August, 2010.
  • B.Sc., summa cum laude; Plymouth State University, May 2008
