Pacific Climate Seminar Series

September 2009 marks the beginning of the second annual Pacific Climate Seminar Series. This academic year the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) and the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS) have joined together to co-host the series. We hope to demonstrate the complementary nature of our joint mission. All seminars will be held at 2:00 pm on the third Wednesday of every month in ECS (Engineering and Computer Science Building), Room 660. A live webcast is available below. Coffee and snacks will be served.

The PCIC mission "is to quantify the impacts of climate change and variability on the physical environment in Pacific North America". The PICS mission "is to partner with governments, the private sector, other researchers and civil society to undertake research on, monitor and assess the potential impacts of climate change, and to assess, develop and promote viable mitigation and adaptation options to better inform climate change policies and actions."

PCIC focuses its work in four themes: (1) Regional Climate Impacts (Downscaling/Scenario Selection); (2) Hydrologic Impacts (Hydrologic Modelling); (3) Climate Analysis (Climate Monitoring and Analysis of Extreme Events); and Ocean Influences (Storm Surge/Sea Level Rise). PCIC strives to quantify the affects of climate change and to provide products that can be used by PICS and other organizations that are focused on broader mandates of developing mitigation and adaptation solutions.
