The following are Frequently Asked Questions about the sort of work that is carried out by and through the Consortium:
Research
- Q. Do you conduct basic climate research?
A. PCIC assists academic researchers by offering in-kind resources to apply to results of their research, and by assisting with facilitating collaborative projects. In exchange for this support, we are able to remain involved in leading academic research since the results of that research will improve climate impacts information and tools which meet stakeholder needs.
Weather predictions and data
- Q. Do you predict weather?
A. No. Specific forecasts for the upcoming 5 to 10 days are produced by government and private organizations. Such predictions have greatest skill for the first two days and lose skill dramatically thereafter. Daily forecasts are available at Environment Canada and The Weather Network for the general public, marine, agriculture, aviation and many other sectors that are sensitive to the weather on a daily basis. - Q. Do you have recent weather data?
A. No. Climate data is historical in nature and relatively recent weather such as occurred during the past year or two is updated only as needed for projects. Environment Canada is one of the few organizations that can provide certified, recent weather data. - Q. Do you have historical weather and climate data?
A. Yes. We plan to have all data available to us accessible through our website. We may have additional data that is not on our website and we strive to assist those who have a particular need. Please contact Trevor Murdock for more information. We do not sell data.
