EOS publishes mini-report on November Regional Climate Service meeting
Posted: 18 Jun 2012
In a recent issue of EOS, Transactions American Geophysical Union, Francis Zwiers (PCIC) and Hans von Storch (Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht) reported on the Regional Climate Service Workshop 2011 held in Victoria BC Canada on November 21-23. The EOS ‘meeting summary’ reports on the workshop outcomes, paying particular attention to the different approaches the two federally organized countries (Canada and Germany) have taken in delivering regional climate services. Notably, both countries apply a collaborative approach to regional climate service delivery. In Canada, regional climate delivery institutions are quite large, delivering climate information based on specific scientific questions derived from practical problems. In Germany, the ‘service’ is provided by small branches of larger research laboratories, with the small branches utilizing scientific information from their parent labs.
The abstract and report can be found on the EOS website, here http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2012/2012EO230009.shtml
This mini meeting report is a precursor to a more in depth paper expected to detail the findings of the workshop.
